I am a candidate and I'm interested what do I do next?
A comprehensive evaluation will be scheduled. This exam includes a refraction, dilated exam, mapping of the cornea, measuring corneal thickness, and a thorough retinal exam. The fees range from $150 to $250 and is part of the surgery cost if surgery is scheduled within three months of evaluation.

Do I need to do anything special if I wear contact lenses?
If you wear soft contact lenses you must remove them at least 3-5 days before your exam and before surgery. If you wear hard lenses, you must remove them at least 3 to 4 weeks before the exam and before surgery, with periodic measurements being taken.

How long has laser vision been performed?
Laser vision correction has been performed in the United States since 1984.

Is laser vision correction safe?
When performed by an experienced surgeon, it is a safe procedure. Studies show that less than 1% of patients experience a vision decrease after laser surgery. A very small number of patients (5-8%) may require a second laser treatment to achieve their best outcome.

What kind of results can a patient expect?
More than 98 percent of patients achieve a visual acuity of 20/40 or better without glasses or contacts. Many even do better.

Does laser vision correction hurt?
Anesthetic eye drops make the treatment painless. Rarely patients may experience mild discomfort.

What should I expect the next day?
Most patients wake up seeing better than the night before, and should be able to drive their car and even go to work. Some people may experience blurry vision. However you should notice a daily improvement in your vision.

What is vision like during the healing period?
LASIK offers immediate results and quick healing.

How long does it last?
LASIK permanently reshapes the surface of the cornea.

How soon can I return to work?
Most people return to work the next day.

Will I have to wear glasses following surgery?
Most patients due to the normal aging process (forty or fifty) lose the ability to focus at close distances. Occasionally glasses may be helpful if reading for long periods of time or small print.

What is monovision?
Full correction is achieved in the dominant eye but a slight under correction is left in the non-dominant eye. This gives the patient good distance vision as well as close vision.

Does insurance cover the cost of laser vision correction?
Our insurance department will be happy to check your plan. Some insurance plans cover elective treatments.

What does laser vision correction cost?
The cost of good eye sight is priceless. The fee for the procedure ranges from $995 to $1695 per eye. This includes the cost of all preop testing, surgery and 6 months of follow up visits.
